Roberto Rocco was discussant for Ester Limonad’s lecture at CEDLA (Center for Latin American Research and Documentation) of the University of Amsterdam. Limonad is professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and is spending a period as guest scholar at the University of Leiden. Limonad talked about past and recent trends in Brazilian urbanisation. Limonad discusses the role of corporation in the production of urban space in Brazil.┬áBrazil is an intensely urbanised country (around 90% of Brazilians live in cities). Despite political and economic reform after re-democratisation in 1984, Brazilian cities still face serious challenges concerning social and environmental issues.
